Petty offences in the Thai penal Code are designated as the smallest offences with imprisonment not exceeding one month and fine not exceeding 1,000 baht or both. There are 31 sections mentioning about them. And the offences likely to be committed by a foreign visitor are few such as: 1. Whoever fails to answer the question of the government official who asks the person about his/her name and address in performing his/her official duty or gives false information shall be fined not more than one hundred baht. However, if the person is an accused person, he/she has the right not to give the information that may jeopardize himself or herself because he/she has the right of self – incrimination. So he/she is not guilty.

Trespass is an illegal entrance into another person’s immovable property to violate the peaceful living of the people in there. If you are allowed to go in there, it will never be an offence. That is why the offence is compoundable. Though the damaged person has lodged a complaint with police against you or has prosecuted you in the court, he/she can withdraw the complaint or withdraw the prosecution and, then you will be free of the offence.

Yes, it is; and the offence is called mischief. The general punishment for the offence is imprisonment not more than three years and fine not more than six thousand baht or both. It is an offence even though you do not destroy it but, if you do something to lessen its use, e. g., you take away the thing that its owner put on the road to slow down speeding cars, you will be guilty of mischief also.

Yes, receiving a stolen property from another person is an offence in most countries of the world. The offence under the Thai law is committed by getting or receiving or obtaining in are way knowing that it is a thing that has been illegally taken through stealing, snatching, blackmailing, robbing, cheating eta., and such receiving may be done in any way and for and purpose such as helping to hide, or for selling it out to for pledging it or for disposing of it. The punishment for that is imprisonment not exceeding five years and fine not exceeding ten thousand baht or both. If the offence is committed for making profits or if the property has come from robbing, the imprisonment is not lower than six moths but not exceeding ten years with a proportionate fine. And if the property is an image of Buddha, the imprisonment is not lower than five years but not more than fifteen years with a proportionate fine. You may defend the accusation of this offence that you did not know it was an illegal thing at the time of receiving it.

Embezzlement is committed by taking other person’s property in the offender’s own care dishonestly . And the imprisonment for it is not exceeding three years and fine not exceeding six thousand baht or both. If the offender is a trustee, the imprisonment is as high as five years and fine not exceeding ten thousand baht or both. All cheatings are compoundable offences except public cheating.

Yes, there is. Whoever causes any damage on his insured property to get compensation from the insured property is punishable with imprisonment not more than five years and fine not exceeding the thousand baht or both.

The offence is committed by taking advantage over another through the person’s weak – mindedness or lack of knowledge in buying or selling some thing with the person. The imprisonment for that is not exceeding two years and fine not exceeding four thousand baht or both.

An alien immigrant who desires to do a job allowable in Thailand like teaching English shall have to apply for a work permit from the Thai authority before doing it. The school may help him to do it. And he will receive it in a few days. The Thai authority usually is not strict so much in this matter because it is no harm but useful to Thai children.
